Career change
To learn coding and design, I left my career as a landscape architect and began building a website. Frustrated with the results, I redesigned and recoded it over and over. Six months later, I still didn’t have much to show—but I had learned enough to land my first industry job, joining Digbi as a designer.

JJR
For the first 6 years of my professional career, I was a landscape architect for my dream firm (JJR, now known as SmithGroup), where I designed parks and plazas, created masterplans for towns and universities, and specialized in 3d modeling and rendering. Although it may not have been website or software design, the work was formative to the designer I am today.

School
I studied landscape architecture at Michigan State University, where a Bauhaus-inspired curriculum introduced me to a wide range of design principles. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for digital design, particularly through self-learning 3D modeling and rendering. While the curriculum didn’t cover it, a classmate and I dedicated our nights and weekends to mastering the craft, which became a pivotal moment in my design journey.
